I focus on the part of a topic that is causing difficulty, explain it clearly, and then have the student work through examples. I use different learning strategies depending on the subject, the student, and what they are trying to improve.
What I offer.

1-on-1 tutoring +
Individual attention. The lesson is focused on one student, so we can spend more time on the exact topics they need help with.
This can include homework support, reteaching a concept, practice problems, or preparing for an assessment.
K–10 students +
My main grade range. I can generally tutor students from kindergarten through 10th grade.
The specific subject and class determine what material I can cover effectively.
Sometimes K–12 +
Subject dependent. For some subjects and material, I can work with students in 11th or 12th grade as well.

Learn to code step by step. I can teach Python fundamentals, beginner programming concepts, problem solving, variables, conditionals, loops, functions, and more.

About the tutor.
My goal is to make difficult material easier to understand and give students a practical way to work through it.

I start by figuring out what the student already understands. From there, I explain the missing concept, work through examples, and give the student opportunities to solve problems with less help.
I use a range of evidence-informed learning techniques depending on what will help the student most, including retrieval practice, distributed practice, interleaving, self-explanation, practice testing, and error analysis.

I use proven learning strategies when they fit the student and the material. The goal is not to make studying complicated — it is to make practice more useful and help students actually remember what they learn.
01 · RETRIEVAL PRACTICERetrieval Practice
Strengthen memory by bringing information to mind instead of simply rereading it.
How it works. Retrieval practice asks a student to recall an idea, definition, process, or formula from memory before checking the answer. The effort of retrieving information helps make later recall more reliable.
In a lesson: I might ask short questions, have the student explain a process from memory, or give a few questions without notes before reviewing what they missed.
Especially useful for: vocabulary, formulas, facts, concepts, and test preparation.
02 · DISTRIBUTED PRACTICEDistributed Practice
Replace last-minute cramming with shorter reviews spread across time.
How it works. Instead of studying the same material for hours in one sitting, students return to it over multiple sessions. Forgetting some of the material between sessions makes each retrieval more meaningful.
In a lesson: I can identify the most important material and build quick review cycles into future sessions so earlier concepts stay accessible.
Especially useful for: languages, definitions, formulas, science concepts, and cumulative classes.
03 · INTERLEAVED PRACTICEInterleaved Practice
Mix related problem types so students learn to recognize which method belongs where.
How it works. Rather than completing twenty nearly identical problems in a row, interleaving mixes different types of problems. The student must first identify what kind of problem they are facing and then choose a strategy.
In a lesson: I can combine several related skills once the student understands each one individually.
Especially useful for: mathematics, science, grammar, and other subjects with multiple problem-solving methods.
04 · ELABORATIVE SELF-EXPLANATIONElaborative Self-Explanation
Make thinking visible by explaining why an answer, step, or idea makes sense.
How it works. Students explain their reasoning rather than only stating an answer. Explaining why a rule applies or why a step works can reveal gaps that a correct answer may hide.
In a lesson: I can ask questions such as “Why does that work?” or “How did you know which method to use?” and help refine the explanation.
Especially useful for: math, science, reading comprehension, grammar, coding, and problem solving.
05 · PRACTICE TESTINGPractice Testing
Use questions as a learning tool, not just as a final measurement.
How it works. Students answer questions before seeing the solution and then use the results to identify what needs more attention. Testing yourself can strengthen retrieval while also exposing weak areas.
In a lesson: I can use short, low-stakes question sets, then explain missed questions and target the underlying concept.
Especially useful for: quizzes, tests, exams, standardized-test preparation, and cumulative review.
06 · DUAL CODINGDual Coding
Connect words with meaningful visual representations to build multiple paths to understanding.
How it works. Dual coding combines verbal explanations with useful visuals such as diagrams, timelines, labeled models, or simple sketches. The visual should clarify the idea rather than simply decorate the page.
In a lesson: I can turn a difficult process or relationship into a diagram and then connect each visual element back to the written explanation.
Especially useful for: science, history, geography, processes, systems, and conceptual material.
07 · WORKED-EXAMPLE FADINGWorked Examples
Study a model solution first, then gradually take over more of the problem yourself.
How it works. A worked example shows the steps of solving a new type of problem. As the student becomes more comfortable, support is gradually removed until they can solve the problem independently.
In a lesson: I can demonstrate a process, ask the student to complete selected steps, and then move toward independent problems.
Especially useful for: mathematics, science, grammar, and coding fundamentals.
08 · ERROR ANALYSISError Analysis
Turn mistakes into information about exactly what needs to change.
How it works. Instead of simply correcting a wrong answer, we identify the type of error: a missing concept, incorrect method, skipped step, misunderstanding, or careless mistake. The student then practices the specific weakness.
In a lesson: I can review missed questions and help the student build a clear pattern for recognizing and avoiding the same error.
Especially useful for: math, science, grammar, test preparation, and any subject where the same mistakes keep appearing.
